On Heaven and Hell
I made this essay as a school requirement in connection with our lesson in English 4, Dante's Inferno. It's crap relly but here it is:
There is no Hell. There is no heaven either. Life is maze of choices that ends when Death meets you at some point where you take the wrong turn. Nothing goes beyond death.
The concept of Hell simply tells us that for every wrong thing we do an equivalent wrongdoing will come to us later. It’s the same thing with Heaven. What humans don’t understand is that they need not wait for Death to meet them along the way to have a piece of Hell or Heaven.
Humans fail to see that this world’s already Hell and Heaven. It’s still contrapazzo. The only difference is that you won’t wait long. Hell is other people, the same way that other’s people Hell is you. Every person, at some point in his life, suffers because of other people. In the same manner every person, at some point in his life, causes the suffering of other people.
Take my life for example. For fifteen years I have been continuously walking around the maze of life, always meeting people along the way. They either cause me to suffer or I cause them to. Yes there are instances when it’s neither, but that’s the time when Heaven comes in. You feel good because of other people and sometimes they do because of you.
Lies, backbiting, scolding, beatings, gifts, kisses, thank-you’s, hate-you’s, bruises, wounds, tears, laughter, smiles, sorrow, love-you’s—all these things come to our lives at least once. And when you come to think of it, these things are the Hells and Heavens of our lives. We need no wait long to feel happy or suffer. It’s all here in this world. Heaven and Hell are the people around us.
