A Condition of Vulnerability

No suffering is unjust. Humans were given the ability to know that we’re in a condition of vulnerability. Humans suffer because that’s just the way it is. The world was created with all its dangers, and it’s inevitable that we suffer. However, this doesn’t mean that God causes suffering. God wants us to understand our condition and to recognize the many ways we can suffer. But all of these events are not caused by God and shouldn’t separate us from God.
Human wickedness causes suffering. A baby’s suffering from his parents’ beatings are caused by his parents’ wickedness. Crimes committed by humans often are done deliberately to harm others. There is nothing we can do. It’s simply suffering caused by our vulnerability to these things.
Natural events cause tremendous sufferings but they’re simply part of God’s creation. The juxtaposition of these natural forces and humans lead to suffering.
In relationships with people, we often neglect to get along though we know that God wants us to create a world at peace. When we fail to do so, we suffer.
When we realize suffering’s inevitability and decide never to let it separate us from God, we’re no longer afraid. We get the courage to face the world and the desire to do good things. Suddenly, we see many good things and people. We experience God’s love inside and through others. And then, we realize that really, this world isn’t all about suffering.
